High Weald Staff 'Brave the Shave' for Macmillan Cancer Support

Staff and students had a great time on Thursday 20 July, raising money for our charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Five staff had their heads shaved: Mr Stroud, Mr Dann, Mr Walsh, Mr Kent and Mr Slowey.  Beards were shaved too: Mr Dann, Mr Kent and Mr Slowey.

Some of our staff winced when Miss Hymers waxed their legs for them: Mr Hare (who seemed to be in a lot of pain), Mr Darby (who had a slightly funny walk afterwards) and Mr Goode (who seemed to enjoy the pain of it all!).  Mr Dann had his legs done too – what a sport!

It was terrific fun and the students were great - raising money by being there on the day, and buying cakes that were made by staff and parents.  We had a varied list of cakes that would have been snapped up in any posh bakery, and they went down a storm. What a cracking end to the last week of the school term.

Thanks to everyone involved, especially the staff whose families probably didn’t recognise them when they got home.  A big thank you to everyone who made cakes.  Thanks to Miss Longhurst, our academy Principal, for wearing a Brighton Shirt when she is an avid Eagles supporter!  And thanks to everyone who gave to the charity, whether it was online or at school on the day.

Fundraising hit over £1500.  This goes to a well-deserved charity in the name of our favourite teacher Miss Daw, who we lost last summer after a very short illness.  It all goes to show that we are a great school and we will never forget Miss Daw. We are sure she would have enjoyed the event immensely.
