The High Weald Academy

Kidenza Orchestra performs at High Weald Academy

The stage was set for a fantastic day as over 1000 children from 6 local Primary schools came to a concert by the Kidenza orchestra.

They came on foot and coaches from the surrounding villages including Cranbrook, Colliers Green, Goudhurst and Kilndown, Marden,  Sissinghurst, Tenterden and John Mayne in Biddenden; some even picnicking on the way! The sounds of Holst, Beethoven and a classical orchestra resounded around the academy.  They squeezed into the main hall and sat spellbound learning about the fun of classical music.

The Kidenza orchestra is based in West Kent and is a 14 piece orchestra, with conductor and an animator/producer.  They are currently on a tour as part of the BBC 10 Pieces Concerts which help introduce children to classical music and the enjoyment of playing in an orchestra.  Each performance lasted 70 minutes and the school reverberated with beautiful music pouring out of the hall including excerpts from The Hall of the Mountain King [Grieg] to Short Ride in a fast Machine by John Adams.

Carrie Beech, Principal, introduced the concerts and welcomed the children.  “This was a fantastic event to host and we are working with our local primary schools on a number of projects.  Many children do not get the chance to hear live music and it was fabulous to see them sit there absolutely enraptured.”

Claire Lambert – Director of the Kidenza Orchestra and Animateur/Producer said, “We had more children attend the concerts at High Weald than any other venue.  It was very hot, but the children were all impeccably behaved and really enjoyed it, with standing ovations.  We would love to come back next year with our “Peter and the Wolf” tour.”
