HWA 6th Formers Show Their Skills in National Business and Accounting Competition
On 22nd February, 6 intrepid students headed to Maidstone for the South East heat of the ICAEW BASE competition.
BASE is the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) National Business and Accounting competition for students. It is a unique and exciting experience, where students are able to engage in a business challenge that enables them to develop key employability skills and understand what it’s like to be an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.
In their team of six, Jodie Farris, Oscar Willis, Lydia Hobson, Darren Velvick, Harry Penniall and Alex Penfold were able to put their learning into action by acting as a team of ICAEW Chartered Accountants for the day. Supported by a professional mentor, the team was presented with a variety of business issues they had to provide innovative recommendations for. After presenting their advice to a panel of judges, as well as the other competitors, they were pipped to the post by Tonbridge Grammar and Gravesend Grammar.
The students did exceptionally well and were a real credit to High Weald Academy. I was very proud of everything they achieved on the day!
