High Weald wins Peace Field Project Hub School Status
Following the academy's involvement in the pilot last year, we have been invited to be a hub school for the NCFA 'Peace Fields' project.
Following our involvement in the pilot Peace Fields project last year which saw students from High Weald Academy learning about the 1914 Christmas Day truce and the troops playing football, learning about the power of sport, tolerance and understanding between cultures, we have been invited to be a hub school as the project rolls out. This is a project supported by the DCMS (Department of Culture Media and Sport), the Heritage Lottery Fund and by the National Children’s Football Foundation (NCFA). We will be working with local primary schools to promote learning about local history and running sporting events. We will also have an opportunity to take students to visit the University of Greenwich and Maidstone Museum to learn about the world wars and the impact on modern day society. There are 5 hub schools in Kent and it is an honour and a privilege to be involved in such an exciting project. The culmination will be a dedication of our school fields as peace fields and a plaque in Flanders linking our Peace Field to Flanders Field, this is a real honour. We will keep you posted as the project progresses.
