High Weald Academy Lambing Weekend 2017
Months of planning and hard work meant that we were fully prepared for our annual Lambing Weekend, held this year on 18 and 19 March.
Despite some warning forecasts the weather stayed dry with even a few bright spells which meant that people were happy to come. Over the two days we had 3,000 visitors, which for our little farm is a huge amount. They could see new born lambs, young piglets, goats and a calf. Also day old ducklings and chicks. We even borrowed “George”, a heavy horse as a special attraction. The event was hosted by our young farmers, who were very happy to talk to the crowds about our stock and school; many people commented on how polite and knowledgeable they were.
This event would not happen without the huge support of our parents, who totally organised and ran the refreshment area, which provided hot drinks and homemade cakes over the two days. They also oversaw the few stalls that we had, which all raised extra funds for the farm. As always, we are very grateful for their tireless support.
Others who must be mentioned and thanked are our sponsors, those individuals and businesses who gave us prizes for our tombola, milk for our refreshments, loaned animals to make the days more interesting – a wide range of support. We have published a list of our sponsors (see attachment below) and would again like to say thank you to you all.
The aim of the weekend was always to be a family friendly event that could be accessed and enjoyed by all; this we believe we achieved. It is also a major fund raiser for the farm and again we exceeded our target.
There have been some lovely comments on social media and we are so pleased that all the effort was worth it. We are very grateful to everyone who supported us.
That was spring at the High Weald Academy Farm, next the summer shows!
