High Weald Academy Farm success at The Heathfield Show
HWA Young Farmers competed in several classes against strong competition and achieved some excellent results.
Lambs herald the spring and the Heathfield Show means it is Summer! This is one of our favourite shows, the first of the Summer season, new stock, new show team and fresh competition, it is all about potential.
A small team of 4 beef cattle, 3 dairy heifers, 9 students and some parent helpers competed in several classes against strong competition and achieved some excellent results. Our beef were all placed and our home bred Guernsey heifers were champion and reserve champion of their breed.
In the young handlers classes although some of our calves were a little stubborn, we still gained high places including 1st Reserve Champion Beef Young Handler (Paige Chappell in Year 11) and Harriet Bournes winning a very strong dairy class. Another highlight was the whole school team judged throughout the day as the Best Presented School Club at the show – for the second year running.
This was a great start to our Summer showing season, I feel this team has great potential, next up is the South of England Show then Kent and finally Oxted and Edenbridge.
If you are at any of the above shows please do come and meet us.
