Mrs Newman wins Secondary School Teacher of the Year

Mrs Newman, teacher of Maths, has won Secondary School Teacher of the Year at the 2015 KM Kent Teachers of the Year Awards.

It was a beautiful evening on 19 May when the KM Kent Teachers of the Year Awards took place at Leeds Castle in Kent.

We were thrilled that Mrs Newman, our fantastic maths teacher was nominated and really chuffed that she won Secondary School Teacher of the Year.  Mrs Newman and her husband enjoyed the event which was hosted by the KM.  Presentations took place following a dinner in the wonderful surroundings.

Mrs Newman employs a variety of learning forms to help explain complex subjects such as educational games and online platforms.  She also offers lunchtime, weekend and holiday revision sessions in the lead up to exams to ensure each student gets the support they need.

Nominated by a current pupil, Mrs Newman is praised for her calm approach to maths, making things seem possible and instilling confidence through her calming influence and relentless positivity.  Although she retired from the position of Head of Maths, the school were delighted that she stayed on to teach maths at High Weald Academy.
